How to Ensure You Hire the Right Technician
If you are confused about the difference between an auto technician and a collision repair technician, then this post is a must-read.
Automotive Technicians Are Service Experts
As masters of vehicle maintenance, auto technicians must know a vehicle’s internal systems inside and out, in order to identify when a deeper problem is present. They are frequently tasked with changing the oil or rotating tires, in addition to performing more intricate procedures such as troubleshooting transmission problems or replacing an engine part.
-
Auto technicians generally work in a dealership’s service center or repair shop.
-
Their career avenues include engine rebuilder, auto or tools sales rep, or parts consultant.
-
Must have undergone training by ASE-certified instructors.
-
Be continuously trained to keep up with all modern and technological advancements.
A Collision Repair Technician Is A Restoration Expert
A collision technician will have covered similar criteria to an auto technician, however, will go on to learn how to structurally repair and refinish a vehicle in the event of an accident.
Collision repair is said to be a more specialized discipline, that will focus on the procedures and practices involved, such as body repair, frame reconstruction, welding, and paint matching. From initial damage to new, collision repair technicians when training must learn everything in order to evaluate, reconstruct, and paint a vehicle so it is restored back to its original manufacturer’s condition.
-
Collision repair technicians will usually work in a dedicated collision repair center.
-
Their career avenues include insurance appraiser and adjuster, auto or tools salesperson, restoration technician, and custom painter.
